Mathematics Curriculum

Mrs Wynne - Mathematics Lead

Our Mathematics Lead is Mrs Wynne. If you would like to discuss our mathematics curriculum further, please do not hesitate to contact us.

At Templemoor we aim to provide a high quality maths education – teaching children the essential skills and knowledge to develop an understanding of the world and to create a natural curiosity and love for maths as a subject.

We want all children to be able to see mathematics as an interconnected subject and be able to make connections across mathematical ideas to develop fluency, mathematical reasoning and competence in solving increasingly sophisticated problems. We want our children to apply their mathematical knowledge to science and other subjects.

The expectation in the National Curriculum is that the majority of children will move through the programmes of study at broadly the same pace. However, decisions about when to progress should always be based on the security of children’s’ understanding and their readiness to progress to the next stage. Children who grasp concepts rapidly should be challenged through being offered rich and sophisticated problems before any acceleration through new content. Those who are not sufficiently fluent with earlier material should consolidate their understanding, including, through additional practice, before moving on.

At Templemoor teachers in Year 1 and Year 2 are using detailed schemes of learning published by the White Rose Mathematics hub to plan effective maths lessons incorporating fluency, reasoning and problem solving.

The White Rose schemes support ‘Teaching for Mastery’.

The curriculum map and termly overviews showing the learning objectives for each year group can be viewed below.

Our school subscribes to an educational website called Mathletics.

Through Mathletics your child will be able to access a range of activities focusing on various topics which cover the full Early Years and Primary Curriculum.

This is an incredible on-line resource as it helps to build enjoyment of Maths and in turn, improve children’s confidence and achievement within the subject.

Research has suggested that 99.2% of children who attempt an activity 3 times will have mastered a skill for life and this normally takes less than 20 minutes. Developing our children as Mathematicians is a huge priority at Templemoor and Mathletics could prove to be a huge catalyst in achieving this!

Your child will receive their log-in details shortly. If for any reason it ever gets lost, please contact your child's class teacher.
