WHAT WILL HAPPEN IN SEPTEMBER?
In September, time will be given to children settling back into school and re-establishing routines. Staff will spend time with each child, getting to know them and what their experience of lockdown has been. Once the children feel safe and secure in their new classroom with their new teacher they will be ready to learn. We will be implementing a curriculum which acknowledges that there have been many losses to children as they have stayed at home. Children have experienced a loss of routine, structure, friendship, freedom and opportunity. With this in mind we have chosen to introduce a new topic in the first part of the Autumn term, ‘This is Me’. This will help the children to have a sense of belonging and help to rebuild our school community. We have also chosen to do an English topic based around traditional tales. These stories will be familiar to the children, helping children to feel secure, and will enable us to maximise our reading, speaking and listening and writing opportunities. There will be lots of opportunities for outdoor play, including sessions with 'We Are Adventurers' and PE with Mr Bates.
All children in Year 2 will continue to be provided with a free school meal. Mellors Catering Services provide lunches for the children. Meals are prepared on site in our kitchen by our catering team, led by Miss Dale. For the first four weeks of the Autumn Term the children will have a packed lunch, made on site. They will eat their lunch in their classroom, or outside if the weather is nice! If your child has a food allergy or specific dietary requirements, please ensure that you complete the ‘Special Dietary Needs’ form in the Year 2 Returnable Forms Booklet. Further information can also be found in the ‘Allergens Parent Pack’ below:
